The Town of Smyrna is located on the northern border of Chenango County in Central NY. It is primarily a rural, farming community with a population of approximately 1,400 residents. The Town was founded in 1808 and originally named Stafford. Within a month's time, it was changed to Smyrna, based on a coastal city in ancient Greece.
